Sepsis is an inappropriate response of the body to infections, which can lead to multiple organ failure. Early detection and rapid intervention are essential to reduce the mortality associated with this condition. This study aimed to analyze the epidemiological profile of patients hospitalized due to sepsis in the southern region of Brazil, using data from the SUS Hospital Morbidity Information System (SIH/SUS) covering the period from 2019 to 2023. The research was quantitative, descriptive, and deductive in nature, conducted through a cross-sectional and retrospective analysis. The data were tabulated and analyzed in Excel, with the creation of tables and graphs to represent the distribution by age group, gender, and race. The results showed that 2023 had the highest incidence of hospitalizations due to sepsis, followed by 2022, with a predominance of white patients (77.2%), male patients (51.5%), and those in the 70 to 79 age group (21.8%). Over the five-year period, 135,618 hospitalizations were recorded in the region, indicating a high occurrence of the disease, which is often underestimated. It is concluded that the increase in sepsis incidence, especially in the post-pandemic years, underscores the need for ongoing studies and preventive measures to reduce the mortality and morbidity associated with the disease.
